After decades of abuse within the catholic church and major scandal with Olympic gymnast Dr. Larry Nassar, hundreds have come forward with their own sex abuse stories. On October 1st Maryland will lift the statute of limitations for child sex abuse survivors. One major international advocate is happy to see Maryland lead the way, as she is also survivor and faced Nassar in court. “Childhood victims of sexual abuse in California would no longer face deadlines to file civil claims against their alleged abusers under a new bill announced Monday by Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) and Sen. Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley).” “The Justice for Survivors Act seeks to end the civil statute of limitations for child sexual abuse, including claims against institutions that may have enabled or covered up abuse.
