Description

In this groundbreaking memoir and exposé, Christa Brown tells the story of clergy sex abuse and cover-ups in the largest Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptist Convention. As she shares her journey from trusting church girl to tenacious advocate for children's safety, Brown shines a light on the patterns of preacher-predators and the collusion of evangelical leaders. This Little Light speaks of the unspeakable, and in doing so, testifies to the transformative power of truth-telling.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Christa Brown is described as "the public face" of Baptist clergy sex abuse survivors, Christa Brown was one of the first to go public with substantiated child sex abuse allegations against a Baptist minister and documentation that others knew. Since then, she has worked to shine a light on this widespread systemic problem in Baptistland, and her work has been spotlighted on local and national TV shows, including ABC's 20/20 and the Discovery channel's "True Crime" program.

Brown's book, "This Little Light," received praise in a London Times review, which described Brown as "a whistleblower of historic proportions." She has been interviewed and quoted in numerous news outlets across the country, including The Washington Post, Associated Press, Houston Chronicle, Huffington Post, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Modesto Bee, Christian Science Monitor, EthicsDaily, and Baptist News Global. She has also appeared on radio call-in shows and has been a featured speaker at conferences for clergy sex abuse survivors. She serves on the board of advisors for the Child-Friendly Faith Project.

After a 25-year career as an appellate attorney, and after dealing with multi-centric breast cancer, Brown became a yoga teacher, and with intensive additional training, she specialized in yoga for cancer survivors. Brown is also a runner and has completed seven half-marathons. In a 10-K, she once placed first in her age-category. "It was a rainy, blustery, miserable day, and I gained the edge by simply showing up," says Brown.

Though a native Texan, Brown currently lives with her husband in Colorado. She loves to hike in the Rocky Mountains, and she is the proud mom of a boot-wearing daughter.

"It is critical that we understand the deep personal toll abuse takes on the human soul & the lifelong harm inflicted when a faith community doesn’t protect children & fails to respond well…The most honest & sobering book on this…is Christa Brown’s This Little Light.” - @BozT
